Frequently asked questions.

+ What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based healthcare model that offers comprehensive primary care services for a fixed monthly fee. It provides direct access to your physician without the involvement of insurance companies. This allows for more personalized, convenient, and transparent care.

+ How does the membership work?

With a membership at Oak Hills Medical, you pay a monthly fee that covers a range of services directly provided by Dr. Fowls. This includes consultations, visits, communication, and some procedures. Services not directly provided by Oak Hills Medical, like specialist care, ER visits, and certain tests, are not covered by the membership.

+ What services are included in the membership?

Our membership includes direct access to Dr. Fowls via various communication channels, same or next day appointments, home visits, culinary medicine instruction, routine health exams, chronic disease management, acute care, gynecological care, immunization recommendations, select in-home procedures, and more. A comprehensive list is available on our Services page.

+ What is culinary medicine?

Culinary medicine integrates food and nutrition into treatment plans, promoting well-being through dietary changes. Dr. Fowls imparts tailored guidance on foods to treat and prevent disease, and to improve health. Additionally, Dr. Fowls offers hands-on in-home personalized cooking instruction for her patients.

+ Can I contact my physician after hours?

Yes, we offer after-hours availability for urgent medical problems, ensuring you have access to care when you need it.

+ How will I benefit from Oak Hills Medical if I don't require frequent medical attention?

Even if you don't require regular medical attention, Oak Hills Medical offers preventive care, wellness guidance, and personalized support for your health journey, ensuring you stay on the path to wellness.

+ What if I see a specialist or go to the ER?

For specialist care or emergency situations, your DPC membership will not cover those costs. However, we can assist you by providing appropriate referrals and working in coordination with other healthcare providers.

+ Does Oak Hills Medical accept insurance?

No, our practice operates on a membership-based model, independent of insurance billing.

+ Can I still have insurance with a DPC membership?

Yes, DPC memberships complement insurance plans by providing comprehensive primary care services. While DPC covers many aspects of care, it doesn't replace health insurance for specialized treatments, hospitalizations, or emergencies.

+ Do you accept patients who have Medicare?

Unfortunately, at this time Oak Hills Medical is not able to accept patients who have Medicare, due to laws and regulations of Medicare. Dr. Fowls is not "opted out", thus cannot see Medicare patients (even if they pay out of pocket). However, she plans to "opt out" of Medicare in the future. If you have Medicare and are interested in joining the practice, you can be put on a wait list and will be contacted if this changes in the future.
